Project Management has become critical in the success and competitiveness of public and private sector companies. Enterprises achieve their goals through projects and effective project management. In addition, the increasing complexity of work and demands for "more with less" place special demands on the project manager and need for a project-based approach.

This Project Management Certificate Course will focus on project leadership, communication, team building, conflict resolution, negotiation, cost & budget, measuring performance, and change management. Completing this program will also provide continuing education credits for select organizations and counts towards the Project Management Professional® certification exam requirements by the Project Management Institute.

This program provides the opportunity to learn the advanced aspects of project management by focusing on managing projects and your role as a project manager and leader. You will learn how to:

  • better prepare project schedules;
  • develop project measures and advanced approaches to project control; and
  • how to develop, lead and motivate project teams, and manage project risk, budgets and financial constraints.

Completion of this program will result in achieving a UNCW Certificate in Project Management, helping you be more effective in your current management position and prepare you for career advancement and new business opportunities.

Currently having the PMP (Project Management Professional) is the fastest career accelerator in the market place! Google 'PMP' or look at most job listings and you will see ''PMP required or desired.' One of the requirements to sit for the PMP exam is to have a 35-hour course in project management. Participants have responsibility for managing projects in their organizations. They are interested in improving their efficiency in project management. Some participants take the course to also prepare for the Project Management Institute exam.

Jeanne Dorle

Jeanne Dorle, Ph.D. is a business consultant, corporate trainer, and educator with over 30 years of experience in providing enterprise solutions to corporate and university clients in the United States, Canada, Mexico, England, Scotland, France and Poland. She is experienced in identifying, analyzing, and solving business problems and assisting organizations in aligning project and program portfolios and resources with strategic goals.

In her academic engagements, Jeanne received the Alpha Kappa Psi Student Choice Award for Professor of the Year and the Chancellors Distinguished Services to Students Award. She was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Research Chair in Project Management at the University of Québec in Gatineau, Québec. She earned a BS with distinction, MA and Ph.D., from the University of Minnesota and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law.

Dorle is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP®) and a Program Management Professional (PgMP®) by the Project Management Institute (PMI®). She is certified as an Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3) Assessor and Consultant. She chaired PMI®’s Project Quality Community of Practice, is a senior member of the American Society for Quality, and a member of the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA).
