Anne Berkeley

Anne Berkeley is an associate professor at UNCW and teaches theatre history, theory, dramatic literature, and student-devised theatre. Dr. Berkeley has published numerous articles for such journals as Theatre Topics, Journal of Aesthetic Education, Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism, Research in Drama Education (UK), and the International Journal of Education and the Arts. She is on the editorial board of Theatre Topics and serves as an external reviewer for the Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism. Her current research lies at the intersection of the history and theory of theatre studies in higher education, performance and critical theories, and devising theatre. She is also a director and has recently directed We Are Proud to Present a Presentation… by Jackie Sibblies Drury, The Miss Firecracker Contest by Beth Henley, Low Hanging Fruit (an unpublished play by Robin Bradford), Punk Rock by Simon Stephens, and Good Kids, a new play by Naomi Iizuka. She was nominated by the Wilmington Theatre Awards for best director and best play for Proud to Present… and best play for Punk Rock. Additionally, she has directed numerous devised theatre pieces with students in her courses.
