Traditions & Events

UNCWeekends is a late-night program led by students to provide their peers with safe and fun alternatives to alcohol and substance use. Events are typically put on at 1-2 times between Thursday night and Sunday afternoon.

On-Campus Activities

UNCWeekends puts on a wide variety of activities on campus to ensure accessibility to students. These include artistic events such as Cheerwine & Design and Mingle & jingle, athletic events like Bubble Soccer and the Amazing Race; as well as collaborative events with the Association for Campus Entertainment (ACE), Housing and Residence Life, Greek Life, and many other organizations across campus.

Off-Campus Activities

UNCWeekends works with local companies to give students safe and affordable ways to have fun off-campus every weekend. These events include laser tag at Battle House, midnight bowling at Cardinal Lanes, Skate With Your Date at the Wilmington Ice House, and field trips to Myrtle Beach. Historically, events such as ice skating and bowling have reached over 250 student attendees.

BINGO NIGHT! is a favorite UNCWeekends event taking place during UNCWelcome, UNCWelcomeBack, and Family & Alumni Weekend. Fun prizes are given out through a variety of bingo variations alongside "Random Things in Your Pocket" where students with paperclips, band-aids, gum, and more run to find UNCWeekends staff for a chance to win seasonal shirts.

Casino Night

Casino Night combines education and entertainment by bringing classic elements of a casino straight to campus! This event is supported in part by a $5000 grant from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and aims to raise awareness of problem gambling. Casino night was debuted in spring of 2018 and occurs once per semester. For more information on problem gambling, please visit http://morethanagamenc.com.

 Sunday Funday Series

Sunday Funday is a collaborative event with the goal of helping students relax during midterms and finals. Aspects of this event have included an oxygen bar, professional massages, guided yoga and meditation, service animals, DIY stress balls, puzzles, coloring, and many other relaxing activities.
