Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)

After months of preparation and hard work, we are very pleased to announce our QEP topic. Thanks to our entire campus community for contributing to this plan!

eTeal*: experiencing Transformative Education Through Applied Learning

Accomplishing UNCW’s mission

UNCW’s QEP directly supports UNCW’s mission and strategic aspirations. eTEAL’S Proposed Mission:

As part of our continued commitment to providing students with the most powerful learning experience, the University of North Carolina Wilmington QEP strives to enhance student learning through intentional and reflective applied learning activities. We promote transformative education through intentional and reflective applied learning and explorations of best practices across academic disciplines and pedagogies.

eTEAL’S Definition of Applied Learning & Critical Reflection

Applied Learning is a pedagogical model that places students in authentic experiences, requiring them to employ theories, ideas, and skills that they’ve learned in new contexts, and thereby extending their learning.

Critical Reflection is "[T]he intentional consideration of an experience in light of particular learning objectives" (Hatcher & Bringle, 1997, p. 153).

About the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)

UNCW’s QEP is a multiple-year project meant to enrich and enhance a specific aspect of UNCW student learning.  All students, faculty, staff, and administration are strongly encouraged to participate in the QEP’s development, from topic selection to feedback on the final project.

Any and all ideas, opinions, participation, and general interest are always welcome!

Team SpiritAbout the QEP

The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is one of the primary requirements of UNCW's 2013 re-accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Over the course of three academic years, a team of selected professors, administrators, staff, and students will be coordinating the QEP process, which includes gathering a wide range of input from across campus, choosing a project topic suited to achieve identified student learning goals, developing programs and tactics that put that topic into practice, implementing those programs on campus, evaluating their impact, and adjusting the programs as necessary to ensure years of enriched student learning across UNCW. According to SACS requirement, the university must invest ample resources to implement the QEP, they will be specifically interested in the “institutional capacity” to implement and measure/assess our plan to enhance student learning. Therefore, what we generate as our QEP will be funded and we are required to make it meaningful, measureable, assessable, and significant. The newly developed enrichment in student learning will become a significant legacy that will benefit the campus community in years to come.

We cannot emphasize enough: your ideas and opinions are of utmost importance to the QEP’s success!  Please don’t hesitate to contact us at any time.
