Joe Carrier received the US Aquaculture Society’s Outstanding Student Abstract Award for his paper entitled "The effects of dietary arachidonic acid (20:4 n-6) on growth, survival, stress resistance and Na,K,ATPase expression in larval black sea bass (Centropristis striata)" by J.K. Carrier, W.O. Watanabe, M. Harel, T.C. Rezek, T.H. Shafer, P.J. Seaton and R.D. Roer, presented at the World Aquaculture Society Conference, February 2007, San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Md. Shah Alam received a Minority Student Award for Academic Achievement Fall 2006.

 

Christopher Bentley received the US Aquaculture Society’s Outstanding Student Poster Award for his paper entitled “Preliminary investigations on the effects of dietary lipid level on spawning performance and egg quality in black sea bass” by C.D. Bentley, T.C. Rezek and W.O. Watanabe, presented at Aqua America 2006, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Southern Flounder Workshop, Raleigh
The first and second of a series of four workshops on Southern Flounder Aquaculture were held in March and November 2006 at NCSU (see article from Fish Farming News - requires Adobe Acrobat reader).  These 2-day workshops are an intensive and hands-on introduction to controlled spawning, larviculture, growout using recirculating systems, health management, economics, and marketing.
