The Center for Faculty Leadership (CFL) at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington is dedicated to developing and sustaining a high quality of academic leadership that is essential to the mission and goals outlined in UNCW’s strategic plan. The Center serves as a resource for individuals with aspirations for academic leadership and as a training center for newly appointed department chairs, division coordinators and program directors. CFL also serves as a resource for current, mid-level academic leaders interested in strengthening their leadership effectiveness, improving the quality of their academic programs and, perhaps, advancing their professional careers in university administration. As a partner in the Community of Scholars, the Center for Faculty Leadership supports collaborative initiatives by both member units and faculty members. With regard to the latter, CFL serves as a resource for faculty-generated initiatives that require institutional support beyond the departmental or program level (e.g.: the forthcoming university-wide Evolution Learning Community).
The CFL seeks to achieve its mission by:
Sponsoring programs, workshops, and conferences that enhance leadership capabilities
Engaging in networking and alliance building
Mentoring faculty
Collecting and maintaining a wide range of resources (newsletters and periodicals, grant information, books) to support the work of Department Chairs and to assist faculty in career development
