WAM 653: Atlantic Spotted Dolphin (Stenella frontalis)

Pregnant spotted dolphin that stranded
within Camp Lejeune, NC.
On April 13th, an adult, pregnant, female was necropsied with the help from a multitude of UNCW undergraduate volunteers. The animal was in robust body condition. The cause for the stranding was not obvious on gross examination; awaiting histopathology results. Siginificant gross findings include, Stenurus worms invading the cerebellum, ventricular infarction on the heart, and multiple active lymph nodes.
