UNCW 2024 Campus Master Plan

The UNCW 2024 Campus Master Plan supports the university's newly adopted Soar High, Soar Far, Soar Together Strategic Plan.

"UNCW’s most important asset is its people, and this plan focuses fully on the continued success of our students, faculty and staff ... from enhanced academic advising, career readiness opportunities and support for cutting-edge academic programs and research endeavors to elevated investments in workplace services, campus infrastructure and community engagement, this plan outlines our commitment to transforming Seahawks’ lives and this region, now and in the years to come."

Strategic Plan pillars

Four key pillars represent the foundation of the new strategic plan:

  • Unparalleled opportunities
  • Nationally prominent programs
  • Community commitment
  • World-class operations and infrastructure

In support of these pillars, the following five principles have been created to provide alignment and focused strategies for the campus master plan:

UNCW 2024 Campus Master Plan principles

  • Expand access to student support outside of the classroom
  • Provide areas for faculty/staff engagement
  • Promote equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility to enhance quality of campus life

Strengthen the impact of academic programs, research and partnerships at multiple scales

Improve arts and athletics programs and the visitor experience

  • Maximize utilization of existing campus space
  • Enhance program synergies and adjacencies
  • Plan for resilient stewardship of physical, financial and natural campus assets
  • Improve circulation, open space network and wayfinding
  • Create intentional campus spaces/places that promote interaction, connection with nature and cross-pollination of people, culture and ideas

The Purpose

The purpose of the UNCW 2024 Campus Master Plan is to ensure the highest and best use of the university's physical assets, both developed and undeveloped, in order to meet the university's academic, research and outreach missions.

The UNCW 2024 Campus Master Plan:

  • practical and visionary
  • data-driven and tailored to campus culture
  • long-term view informing day-to-day decision-making
  • builds on historic growth patterns, campus needs and culture to identify issues and opportunities
  • promotes stewardship of natural, human and fiscal resources
  • land use, space use, architecture, landscape, utilities, circulation and parking
  • collaborative engagement with multiple opportunities for input
