The ULC's Study Skills appointments help students develop their academic habits. For one-on-one help with everything from reading and note-taking to test-taking to time management, students can schedule appointments with one of our peer mentors.

Study Skills Appointment Descriptions

Students scheduling a study skills appointment can expect to work on the following:

Reading and Note-Taking

Students might work with a mentor on strategies for effective reading and note-taking, including but not limited to effective surface reading (or "previewing"), active reading and listening, annotating a text, and paraphrasing.

Testing Strategies

Students might work with a mentor on such topics as dealing with test anxiety, developing an effective study routine, growth mindset, moving beyond memorization for deeper learning, and self-testing (or "retrieval").

Time Management

Students might work with a mentor on developing a manageable weekly schedule, setting realistic goals, and combating procrastination, among other important time management habits. Recurring appointments are encouraged.
