Policies/Reports: Mass Email Guidelines Policy
The following guidelines were adopted in an effort to reduce the number of mass emails which are neither warnings nor academic announcements of campus-wide importance. This will, ideally, prompt immediate attention to such announcements when they are sent.
Mass emails sent to faculty/staff/students should be restricted to the following subjects:
Campus security, i.e. notification of acts of violence and instructions on the appropriate responses
Weather, i.e. notification of inclement weather, either current or anticipated, and instructions on the appropriate actions
University closings, i.e. notification of closings, either immediate or anticipated, generally related to either security, the weather, or circumstances serious enough to warrant such action
Announcements from the provost, e.g. notifications re policies, either new or revised, affecting the campus community and other announcements related to academic matters
In most instances emails involving the first three will be distributed by Business Affairs and/or Marketing and Communications. The others will be distributed by Academic Affairs on behalf of the provost. All other announcements, e.g. academic (lectures, symposia, grant opportunities, etc.) and cultural arts (dance, fine arts, music, and theatre events), which include content specifically addressing departmental events should be sent to UNCWeditor@uncw.edu for posting to @UNCW - the official online faculty/staff newsletter. Information is accepted only from UNCW faculty, staff, and students sent from an official UNCW e-mail account.
