Why do you love being a UNCW student?I really appreciate being in an environment where I can be myself and not worry about being judged by my peers. In addition to what I learn in the classroom, I have the option to be involved in 230+ student organizations, sports, see comedians, attend concerts and lectures, hear speakers, and be introduced to political or social issues to spark intellectual conversations. These experiences have molded me into the person I am today, and have helped me emerge as a campus leader. What is your major and what are your career pursuits?General Music/Jazz Studies. As a jazz pianist, I’ve always had a passion for music. As a hobby, my freshman roommate and I used to stay up late to write lyrics and record songs. After graduation in 2013, I want to pursue a music business or entertainment law degree program. One day, it would be great to own and operate my own record company and help other artists achieve their dreams. What does your scholarship mean to you?I recognize that I have been given an opportunity to receive higher education and I’ll never take that for granted. Because of my scholarship I am able to participate in extra-curricular activities and get the full college experience rather than work part or full-time. As SGA president, part of my platform has been dedicated to increasing support for more student scholarships. In what ways can parents make a difference at UNCW?As scholars, we not only have backing from our wonderful faculty, staff and administration, but overwhelming support from our parents as well. Gifts from parents help build a strong and safe Seahawk community. I was so proud to hear that over 3,500 parents contributed to UNCW last year – it’s no wonder why UNCW continues to be so successful. What would you like to say to parent donors? One million “thank you’s” couldn't say enough to what your contributions mean to our students and this university. Words truly cannot express the gratitude we have for your support. I can only promise that as our generation works hard to reach our dreams, we will one day forward your acts of kindness to our own children, UNCW and the community. |
