Compagnie de Danse Jean-René Delsoin
UNCW International Artists in Residence from Haiti on tour as part of Center StageSM
Friday, Nov. 2, 2012
8 pm, Kenan Auditorium
“Bold, energetic, sensational.” (Spotlight/Haiti)
Part of the UNCW Artist in Residence Program
Co-presented by UNCW Office of Cultural Arts & UNCW Presents
Jean-René Delsoin’s outstanding, vibrant dancers and drummers from the mountains overlooking Port-au-Prince, embody choreography that captures Haiti now -- raw and refined, spiritual, powerful and precarious. Delsoin's work delves deep into Haitian culture and Voudou traditions, and emerges a contemporary, pulsating rhythm that captures the spirit of Haiti's past, present and future.
Part of a weeklong residency (Oct. 28 - Nov. 2) subsidized by the U.S. State Department's groundbreaking new Center Stage initiative, this performance is also the spectacular finale to UNCW's Global Focus: Haiti, a semester-long exploration of the rich culture and fascinating history of our international neighbors to the South.
