Subject: Reassignment process
Dear Colleagues,
A couple of weeks ago, I
mentioned that I had authorized the start of a reassignment process for those
employees whose positions would be negatively affected by a 7% budget
reduction. This week, supervisors will be meeting with affected employees
to advise them of their reassignments and develop a schedule to facilitate a
smooth transition to their new departments. Our plan is to have those
transitions completed by July 1, 2009. Your
suggestions for conserving energy, for achieving greater efficiencies in
processes and procedures, for reducing expenses within your own departments and
for accepting and cross-training these reassigned employees have helped us
achieve this goal. I commend all of you.
At the same time, I also want to
remind you that the governor, house and senate are still debating the merits
and impacts of various budget reduction scenarios in excess of 7%. We will
continue to look for ways to save money as an alternative to a reduction in
force, but depending on the final budget reduction outcome or
further cutbacks, additional furloughs or a reduction in force
may be inevitable. Again, as soon as we know the final amount, I will let
you know.
