I am the Laboratory Research Specialist for the UNC Wilmington microscopy laboratory. I am responsible for monitoring the day-to-day operations of the lab. My responsibilities include supervision and training of undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and visiting scientist in the protocols for and proper use of the transmission electron microscope, scanning electron microscope, light microscopes (brightfield, polarized light, epifluorescence and laser confocal) and associated support equipment. I provide training in the use of the digital image analysis software system and in the use of Adobe Photoshop as applied to publication (creation of plates for books and journals). I also provide training in the proper use of all instruments and protocols for both digital and analog photomicrography. I also participate in various research projects with faculty and students, providing expertise in microscopy or image analysis.
