Current
research focuses on the use of modern molecular techniques to address
a variety of questions in shellfish research. Examples of recent
projects include the analysis of mitochondrial DNA markers to evaluate
the efficacy of scallop restoration efforts, the application of
PCR assays to characterize temporal and spatial patterns of crustacean
larvae, and development of SNPs markers to facilitate selective
breeding for disease resistance in oysters. DNA sequencing facility
located at the Center for Marine
Science provides state-of-the-art genetic analysis capabilities,
and extensive computer resources for the analysis of molecular data.
