The dean of the School of Nursing is responsible for
administrative functions of the school, consistent with university policies
and procedures, and reports to the provost and vice chancellor for academic
affairs.
The dean is responsible for personnel and budget and
functions as a contributing member of the school, the university, the
community and the profession. The dean serves at the pleasure of the provost
and vice chancellor for academic affairs with an initial appointment for
five years.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains authority and responsibility for development and administration
of the School of Nursing.
- Makes recommendations for development for the School of Nursing to
the provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.
- Initiates, recommends, implements and evaluates policies and procedures
of the School of Nursing
- Makes recommendations to the provost and vice chancellor for academic
affairs for faculty salaries and all matters relating to appointment,
reappointment, promotion and tenure
- Submits budgetary requests and administers budgeted allocations
- Approves clinical agency agreements
- Promotes the image of School of Nursing
- Chairs the School of Nursing faculty organization
- Maintains responsibilities for accreditation/approval process for
the nursing program
- Provides for the periodic evaluation of the program, faculty and staff
- Implements the Standards, North Carolina Board of Nursing
- Approves student-related functions within the school
- Provides for the development, implementation and evaluation of the
curriculum, including learning resources
- Maintains final authority for admission of students, upon recommendation
by the faculty
- Serves as liaison between the School of Nursing, communities and
professional organizations.
