Reporting to the chancellor, the vice chancellor for student affairs is responsible for student life and student services/student development programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Spokesperson for student services/student needs, quality of life and co-curriculum outside the classroom. Responsible for policy, long-range planning, budgeting, personnel and leadership in the administration of student services/student development.
  • Develop and carry out the mission statement of the Division of Student Affairs, and with division staff formulate goals and objectives for the division in accordance with the goals and purposes of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
  • Develop, implement, administer and evaluate programs, policies and budgets necessary to accomplish the mission, goals and objectives of the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Provide leadership to the departments which are a part of the Division of Student Affairs including the following offices and programs:

  • Coordinate division activities with other divisions and units within the university.
  • Implement and enforce policies and regulations for the university which pertain to campus student life and to the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Coordinate, manage and disseminate data on student characteristics, interests and needs which may serve as a basis for initiation or revision of university policies and procedures which may support university planning activities.
  • Recognize, support and assist in the development of human resources within the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Participate effectively in regional and national professional associations in the area of student affairs.
  • Contribute to the literature of higher education through publication and assistance to staff in their publication efforts.
  • Provide division student services that support the recruitment, enrollment, continuation and graduation of students.
  • Design and develop student service programs and student development programs that promote retention of students.
  • Oversee revisions to the Code of Student Life.
  • Serve as chancellor's liaison to the Student Government Association.
  • Advise the chancellor, board of trustees, board of governors and board of visitors on the issues relating to student life and to the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Serve as a member of the Chancellor's Cabinet and represent the university to the broader community.
  • Accomplish additional duties and responsibilities as directed by the chancellor.
