1. What are the prerequisites for this course?

CHML 211 requires that you have passed or are currently enrolled in the organic lecture class CHM 211.

2. Do I have to take the laboratory along with the lecture?

Although it is not required that you take the lecture and lab concurrently, it is strongly recommended that you do so.  The lab complements the lecture and is designed to help you better understand the lecture material.

3.  What materials are required for the lab?

The lab manual currently used in CHML-211 is "Laboratory Manual for Organic Chemistry, Fall 2008"  by Heather J. McCreery and Pamela J. Seaton.

The laboratory notebook currently used in CHML211 is "Organic Chemistry Laboratory Notebook", published by Brooks/Cole, which is a carbonless page notebook required for both semesters of Organic lab.

You will also need goggles for every lab and proper protective clothing, including close toed shoes, and clothing that covers 3/4 of the body.  Lab coats are available for purchase in the university bookstore if you need one.

4. What happens if I miss a lab?

Attendance at every lab is expected!  Make up labs must be scheduled PRIOR TO THE ABSENCE.  You will receive a 0 for every lab you do not attend, regardless of the reason for the absence.  No one is admitted to lab after the first 5 minutes or without a lab manual, notebook and safety goggles.  If you miss more than three labs (including those for which you were more than 5 minutes late) you will receive a grade of "F" for the entire course.

Yes, free tutoring for CHM-211 is available at the Learning Center in Westside Hall.
