Assistant Professor - Landscape Dynamics/Active Tectonics

The Department of Geography and Geology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Landscape Dynamics/ Active Tectonics to begin August 2013. We seek an individual with expertise in the interactions between tectonics, climate, and landscape evolution using a field-based, quantitative, GIS/Remote-sensing approach. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate teaching excellence at the introductory (e.g., physical and historical geology, Earth materials) and advanced (e.g., tectonics/neotectonics, structural geology, geomorphology, advanced/applied GIS, field techniques) levels, to recruit and advise undergraduate and graduate student research, to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program, and to complement our emerging directions and strengths in GIS/Remote sensing, engineering geology, coastal processes, geohazards, global tectonics, and geophysics. A PhD in geology, geosciences, or a related field is required.

We seek an individual who applies geospatial techniques to geographic problems at the interface of nature and society, such as natural hazards, natural resources, coastal processes, global change studies, or urban/rural development.The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate the potential for teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels in applied geography and a topical or regional research specialty, to recruit and advise graduate students, to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program, and to complement our emerging directions and strengths in GIS/Remote sensing, coastal processes, geohazards, and paleoclimatology. A Ph.D. in geography, geoscience, or a related field is required.

The Department of Geography and Geology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Marine Geology and/or Paleoceanography. We seek an individual who combines expertise in field-based and shipboard collection techniques with quantitative analysis of paleoenvironmental proxy records from ocean archives. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate the potential for teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels in geological oceanography and in their area of specialty, to recruit and advise graduate students, and to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program. A PhD in geoscience, oceanography, or marine science is required. UNCW maintains a full range of analytical facilities in support of research including sedimentology, electron microscopy, stable isotope mass spectroscopy, aqueous chemistry, NMR, and DNA sequencing facilities as well as a dive shop, machine shop, and instrument shop at the UNCW Center for Marine Science (http://uncw.edu/cms/) and on the main campus.
