The Department of Geography and Geology at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington houses a diverse faculty of teachers and scholars whose expertise and research programs span the social, physical, and biological sciences. We offer a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in geography and either a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in geology which prepare the student for advanced studies or for teaching, research, and technical careers. Advanced degrees include Master of Science (M.S.) in geology (thesis and non-thesis options). In addition, many faculty participate in either the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Liberal Studies or the Master of Science (M.S.) in Marine Science. Our educational programs emphasize experiential, field-based, active learning and we strive to provide all students with opportunities to participate in research through internships, independent study, honors theses, and applied learning courses.
