Distinguished Alumni Award

Chartered in 1996, the Watson School of Education (WSE) Alumni Chapter has distinguished itself by serving UNCW, the WSE and the UNCW Alumni Association! Through its fundraising efforts, the chapter has established an endowed alumni scholarship, the naming of the student lounge on the ground floor of the WSE, and the awarding of two annual student scholarships. The annual awarding of the Distinguished Alumni Award is a way the chapter recognizes WSE alumni who have distinguished themselves in the workforce and community by their work and service while representing the Watson School of Education’s commitment to excellence. With the unwavering support of the Dean of the WSE, along with the faculty and staff, our chapter has provided valuable programs to student interns and veteran teachers alike.

Congratulations to Suzan Perry

The 2009 Distinguished  Alumna of the Year award was presented to Mrs. Suzan Perry '83. Dr. Cathy Barlow, Dean of the Watson School of Education presented the award to Ms. Perry at the Watson School of Education graduation ceremony on May 8th.

Ms. Susan Perry is a National Board Certified Teacher from Myrtle Grove Middle School in Wilmington.  Her principal states “that beyond being an incredible 32 year veteran with strong math scores,  Susan Perry is as enthusiastic and energetic about teaching as she ever was.” Last year, the Star News News featured a story about several of her former students making a surprise visit to her after twenty years.  These grown men felt compelled to tell Ms. Perry how important she had been in their lives.

The Watson School of Education Alumni Chapter is very pleased and honored to present this award to Ms. Perry, a classroom teacher recognized and praised for her daily commitment to excellence.
