Undergraduate Degree Programs

• Education of Young Children (B-K)
  This degree leads to North Carolina teacher licensure in birth through kindergarten.
  


• Special Education (K-12)
  Special education prepares teachers to serve children with disabilities from kindergarten through grade 12 in public schools and in various other service agencies. This degree leads to North Carolina teacher licensure in one of three areas of exceptionality: learning disabilities, mental retardation, and behavioral/emotional disabilities.

Licensure Programs

Students who have previously earned degrees (including lateral entry teachers) may earn licensure in any of the above areas by completing required courses as determined by an advisor.

Graduate Degree Programs

Master of Education (M.Ed.)

The graduate program in special education reflects the special education licensing system in North Carolina. The specialized advanced licenses assure continued professional development and progress in the multidisciplinary assessment, identification, and treatment of students with specific disabilities. The advanced licenses build on the initial licenses (General Curriculum and Adapted Curriculum). The three graduate categorical tracks lead to licensure in Behavioral/Emotional Disabilities, Mental Disabilities, and Specific Learning Disabilities. The two specializations in reading and autism allow students to enhance their expertise in areas related to their tracks.
