The Education of Young Children
(EYC) program offers a Bachelor of Arts degree leading to Birth through
Kindergarten (B-K) teacher licensure in North Carolina, as well as courses
for individuals who wish to add Birth-Kindergarten or Preschool Add-on
licensure to an existing degree or license. This website provides
information to prospective students who are interested in careers working
with young children (birth through five) and their families.
Our program has made special efforts to provide access to teacher education for a very diverse paraprofessional and practicing teacher population. We have scheduled most of our courses in the late afternoon or evening. Class sizes are typically small, which enhances sense of community within the program.
The Education of Young Children Bachelor of Arts degree program is designed for people who will assume leadership roles as teachers, consultants, and directors of early childhood education programs in public and private schools. The program encompasses an interdisciplinary approach and emphasized competencies in the fields of childhood development, psychology, sociology, fine arts, and education, including: health education, physical education, and special education and nursing.
