New Hanover EYC Partnership Teacher Training
During the fall of 2002, the EYC program and PDS jointly began offering a two-part PDS Orientation specifically tailored for the needs of professionals who work with WSE students pursuing licensure in the area of Education of Young Children (birth-kindergarten).
The first session of the Orientation training establishes a common vocabulary of terms used within the partnership, explains the principles of Learning-Centered Supervision and Cognitive Coaching, examines the roles and responsibilities of the various partners, and engages in dialogue and activities designed to explore the development and maintenance of a healthy professional culture within an institution.
The second session builds upon the foundation begun in the first session, adding discussions and information specific to the EYC experience. During this training, participants engage in reflection on the particular needs of EYC field experience students and teacher interns, develop an understanding of mentoring and coaching relative to EYC students, and view a demonstration video of the coaching process. Members of the WSE EYC faculty present and explain coaching forms, data collection processes, and evaluation procedures to the participants.
Participants complete a Learning-Centered Coaching Plan assignment at their work site to earn the hours needed to receive professional development credit in their particular field.
