English Department Policies
Departmental Mission Statement
The primary mission of the Department of English
is to provide undergraduate and graduate students with excellent
instruction in the fields of literature, rhetoric and composition,
professional writing, linguistics and English language studies, and
teacher education. As an academic unit within the humanities, the
department is primarily committed to fostering the cultural and
intellectual development of its students, and it also seeks to
develop skills of analysis and communication that prepare students
for careers in a variety of fields. The department is committed to
furthering scholarship in English studies and to providing service
to the region and to the larger scholarly community.
