Cucalorus Film Festival

The 17th annual Cucalorus Film Festival was held November 10-13, 2011 at Thalian Hall, Jengo's Playhouse, and City Stage Theater. The festival enjoyed a record year for the events overall attendance and marked the debut of the NC Retrospective program. The festival hosted 297 artists, including filmmakers, dancers, choreographers, poets, musicians, actors, and one mime from 7 different countries around the world and from cities scattered across the country. Accumulated attendance at the festival’s screenings, parties and educational events totaled 10,515.

This year's festival marked the launch of our North Carolina filmmaker retrospective, featuring an artist who has had a significant impact on film culture in our state. The inaugural retrospective featured the inventive stylings of Norwood Cheek, founder of the Flicker Film Festival and recognized around the world for his innovative music vids and short films. In addition to a survey of Norwood’s work, the festival hosted the US premier of “10x10” - a project pairing 10 filmmakers and 10 bands together to make a music video in less than a week. The full 10x10 presentation can be seen online at: www.flickerla.com/10x10/10x10xcucxiphone.mp4

Look out for Cucalorus 18 taking place November 8-11, 2012 as the festival continues to bring people together to celebrate and discover independent and international film. For more information on the fest surf on over to cucalorus.org
