Summer School Financial Aid Application

Please read carefully before completing the application.

With the exception of summer activity, your 2011-12 financial aid file must be complete.
You must be in compliance with all three Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress (Cumulative GPA, Hours Earned, and Maximum Time Limit) at the end of the Spring Semester.
There is no federal aid available for Permission/Visiting Students, Special Undergraduate, or Unclassified Students. If you are a visiting student, check with your home school for financial aid options during summer term.
Before submitting this form, meet with your Academic Advisor, and, if possible, pre-register for all summer classes you intend to take. It is very important that this application reflect the correct number of hours for which you will actually be enrolled. If the application does not match actual enrollment, disbursements will be delayed or you may be required to return funds already paid to you.
All communication is through your UNCW email address, or your permanent mailing address. Please be sure to monitor your e-mail for updates and information regarding the summer application process. You will receive notice of your summer financial aid eligibility via your UNCW e-mail address.
To receive a Federal Pell Grant for Summer School, all the following apply:

You must have been determined eligible for a Federal Pell Grant for 2011-12 .
If you did not use the Pell Grant as a full time student in both fall and spring, you may be eligible for the Pell Grant for summer term.
Students graduating in July 2012 or December 2012 should file the 2012-13 FAFSA. If the 12-13 Pell Grant eligibility is determined to be higher than your 11-12 eligibility, you may be able to utilize those funds based on your mid-year graduation.

To receive a Federal Subsidized/Unsubsidized Direct Loan for Summer School, all the following apply:

Undergraduates must enroll for a minimum of 6 semester hours during Summer.
Graduate students must enroll a minimum of 4.5 semester hours during Summer. Also, graduates who hold a teaching or research assistantship or are enrolled for 0 to 3 hours of thesis work are considered full-time.

Undergraduate students who advanced from freshman to sophomore or sophomore to junior status during the 2011-12 academic year may be eligible to borrow additional Federal Subsidized/Unsubsidized Direct Loan for summer.

Fund disbursement will occur when you have begun attending enough hours to be considered half time. For example, funds for a student with 3 hours in the first summer session and 3 hours in the second summer session will be disbursed when classes start for the second summer session.

This means that you may need to plan to pay for books and receive your reimbursement when financial aid can be paid.
You cannot receive an emergency loan in advance of your scheduled refund based on split enrollment over the summer terms.

You will have only one opportunity to submit this application from this website. Please contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid in writing to make any changes to the enrollment status once this form has been submitted. I understand that adjustments to my enrollment status, housing, or other University services may cause new charges to be placed on my student account after I have received my financial aid.
I understand that if I change my registration or drop a class(es) for summer after receiving my financial aid, I may be required to repay some or all of the aid received.
I understand that my summer financial aid will initially be established based on the enrollment I report on this application. Any changes to the total number of hours for my summer enrollment status should be reported to my financial aid counselor and I understand that my aid may be adjusted at the end of add/drop based on my actual summer enrollment at that time.
