
Office of Research services and sponsored programs
ORSSP is responsible for the oversight of externally sponsored programs and provides support including- identifying funding sources
- assisting faculty in proposal development
- electronic proposal submission, and
- monitoring funded projects
It is responsible for seeing that the university remains in compliance with federal and state policies pertaining to research, serving as the coordinating office for human and animal compliance activities and in the cases of Intellectual Property, works with the Office of Technology Transfer to transfer research-derived technology into commercial use.
RAMSeS
The RAMSeS research proposal and award management information system provides a full range of functionalities - from pre-award (creation and electronic routing of proposals, including electronic departmental approval and PI certification) through post-award (account set-up and award management) - and also serves as a data repository with a comprehensive reporting functionality.

Facilities, Centers, Institutes, and Programs
UNCW offers several cutting edge research facilities and has partnerships with organizations around the world to enhance research endeavors. Here are just a few of the current resources that UNCW offers:
- Center for Marine Science
Dedicated to providing an environment that fosters a multidisciplinary approach to questions in basic marine research. The mission of the center is to promote basic and applied research in the fields of oceanography, coastal and wetland studies, marine biomedical and environmental physiology, and marine biotechnology and aquaculture.

The UNCW Center for Marine Science
- Aquarius
Aquarius is an underwater ocean laboratory located in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. The laboratory is deployed three and half miles offshore, at a depth of 60 feet, next to spectacular coral reefs. Scientists live in Aquarius during ten-day missions using saturation diving to study and explore our coastal ocean. During the missions, Aquarius offers three live streaming web cams as well as a blog updated by the Aquanauts.
- MARBIONC (Marine Biotechnology in North Carolina)
The product of a $15 million dollar matching grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), this two story bio-technology lab building includes UNCW Marine Science labs and labs for lease to outside researchers. To be completed Fall 2012.
