TUITION INFORMATION FOR ARMED SERVICE PERSONNEL AND DEPENDENTS


Armed Forces Personnel

Under North Carolina General Statue 116-143.3, Armed Forces* personel and dependents, qualiying for admissions to the UNCW Graduate School, shall be charged the in-State tuition rate and applicable mandatory fees while abiding in the State.

*Armed Forces include personnel and reserve personnel in the United States Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and the North Carolina National Guard.

Reassigned or Retiring
If you are reassigned or retire, you are still eligible for the in-State tuition rate and applicable mandatory fees as long as you are continously enrolled in the degree or program you enrolled in when your were reassigend or retired.

Honorable Discharge
If you are Honorably Discharged, you will continue to be eligible for the in-State tuition rate and applicable mandatory fees if you establish residency in North Carolina within 30 days after discharge and have been continously enrolled in the same degree or program at the time of discharge.

Dependents


Under North Carolina General Statue 116-143.3, dependents of members of the Armed Forces*, qualifying for admission to the UNCW Graduate School, abiding in the state and sharing an abode with the member shall be eligible to be charged the in-State tuition rate and applicable fees.

*Armed Forces include personnel and reserve personnel in the United States Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and the North Carolina National Guard.


Reassigned or Retiring
If the member of the Armed Forces is reassigned or retires, you will continue to be eligible for the in-State tuition rate and applicable manditory fees if you are continuously enrolled in the degree or program in which you were enrolled when the member of the Armed Forces is reassigned or retires.

Honorable Discharge
If the armed service memebr is Honorably Discharged, you will continue to be eligible for the in-State tuition rate and applicable mandatory fees if you establish residency in North Carolina within 30 days after the service member has been discharged. You must also be continously enrolled in the same degree or program at the time of discharge.


How to Request In-state residency

  • Complete the request form.
  • Each request must be accompanied by an affidavit, on pre-printed military letterhead, from the appropriate military authority attesting to the status and location of the armed service member.

Deadlines

Request form and supporting document must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on the first day of classes, as listed in the academic calendar, for the term in which residency classification is sought.

Note: Request for in-state residency for tuition purposes is only granted for one academic year (Fall and Spring term). You will need to request in-state residency at the beginning of each academic year that you wish qualify to receive in-state residency for tuition purposes.
