Student Success Advisors (2 Vacancies)

The Office of Student Success in the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) invites applications for multiple positions as a Student Success Advisor. Working as part of a team in our newly formed Student Success Center, our Student Success Advisors develop and provide services for students, staff, and faculty that foster the student experience at UNCW and position them for success as they continue in their chosen career paths. We seek caring individuals who are passionate about and dedicated to helping students identify and achieve their educational and career goals. Student Success Advisors work collaboratively with other units across campus (e.g., the Career Center, University College, etc.) to (a) provide academic advising; (b) support program recruitment and admissions; (c) provide major, career, and graduate school guidance; (d) perform assessment, monitoring, and reporting related to these services; and (e) develop other services and programs that will foster student success. Some weekend and evening work, as well as travel, is required for recruitment activities and provision of services at our Onslow campus. Student Success Advisors should have the ability to be flexible in a changing, fast-paced environment.
Applicants must (1) hold a master’s degree in higher education student affairs or (2) hold a master’s degree with at least 5 years of related work experience in a university or college setting. Applicants must possess strong communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, and the ability to manage time effectively in a busy environment. A working knowledge of computers and software is essential to the success of this individual. Preference will be given to candidates who have work experience related to at least one of the program areas represented in our professional schools.
The Office of Student Success is the operational division of the CHHS Student Success Center, which was formed in July 2013 to recruit, retain, and graduate high quality health and human services professionals. The Office also oversees the newly renovated Student Learning Commons where students and student organizations can gather to study and collaborate on class or community projects. The Office reports to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the College of Health and Human Services. The Office serves students, staff, and faculty in all undergraduate and graduate program areas housed in the College, including athletic training, clinical research, exercise science, gerontology, nursing, physical education and health K-12 teaching, public health studies, recreation therapy, social work, and recreation, sports leadership, and tourism management. This is an exciting time as we continue to shape the Center in an effort to maximize student learning and development.
The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and application. In the formative stage of development, the CHHS is currently home to three professional schools: School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Social Work.
