Explore the Global Partnerships and International Education

Our mission is to develop UNCW's international dimension through cultural events and activities, education abroad programs, services for international students and scholars, support for faculty teaching, research, and scholarship abroad, and engagement with the local community. We foster international partnerships to create opportunities for student, faculty, and staff exchanges, as well as realize resources to further the internationalization of UNCW and the surrounding community.

STEM Designated Programs

UNCW offers undergraduate and graduate programs with CIP codes that make F-1 visa holders on Optional Practical Training eligible to apply for a two-year STEM OPT extension.

Demetriou Forges Connections in France Through Fulbright Program

Cynthia Demetriou, associate provost for Student Engagement, Enrollment, and Retention (SEER) at UNCW, represented UNCW in France as one of 14 U.S. higher education administrators selected as Fulbright U.S. Scholars.

Angela Luedke is one of 11 international education professionals to receive a prestigious NAFSA RISE Fellowship.

Michael Wilhelm Receives Prestigious Fulbright Specialist Award  

Michael Wilhelm, associate provost for global partnerships and international education, received a Fulbright Specialist Program award from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Wilhelm will travel to France later this month to launch his project at the ESSCA School of Management.

UNCW’s Wilhelm Treks to Taiwan Through Fulbright International Seminar

Associate Provost for Global Partnerships and International Education traveled to Taiwan as part of a Fulbright for an International Education Administrators Seminar.

Global Staff Mobility Award

UNCW 's Global Partnerships and International Education has three (3) staff mobility spots to the University of Huelva for June 2026. The funding for this mobility corresponds to Erasmus Project 2023-1-ES01-KA171_HED-000131668. Staff will attend the University of Huelva's International Week scheduled for June 22-26, 2026, to experience their campus, culture, and academics. Staff should submit their CV and a one paragraph statement expressing their goals of the visit by Monday, April 20 to fernandezvillaj@uncw.edu. The Erasmus funding for the staff is €1,940 and the rest of the expenses will be borne by the staff or their department.

Intercultural Festival

Coming this Spring! UNCW’s annual Intercultural Festival (iFest) is a celebration of world cultures featuring music and dance, food, art, and informational booths representing more than 25 countries. iFest fosters a sense of global community and promotes cultural understanding and appreciation.

International Education Week

November 17 to 21, 2025, UNCW hosts activities and events for students and the local community during the national celebration of International Education Week (IEW). This joint initiative between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is celebrated in over 100 countries to demonstrate the importance of international educational experiences.

Eden Briley Receives 2023 Global Citizen Student Award

This scholarship rewards students that are committed to internationalization at UNCW. Eden Briley's video connects her time abroad at University of Stirling in Scotland with her international experiences at UNCW. Her global engagement on campus ranged from being an International Student Mentor as well as a conversation partner for the English Language Center.

UNCW Receives Senator Paul Simon Spotlight Award

UNCW was one of three recipients of NAFSA’s prestigious 2021 Senator Paul Simon Spotlight Award for Internationalization. UNCW was recognized for its “FYSA in the UK” program, designed especially for freshmen who are admitted in the spring semester.
