Inbound Faxing via Unified Messaging
Inbound faxing is a Unified Messaging feature provided to all faculty and staff who have a "962" UNCW phone number and a Unified Messaging account. You can now receive faxes in your UNCW email Inbox.
FAQs
How do I know if I have a Unified Messaging account?
If you receive voicemail in your e-mail Inbox, then you have Unified Messaging, which means you can also receive faxes.
What do I need to do to turn on faxing?
No action is required on your part to set up faxing. It is already a component of your Unified Messaging account.
What phone number do I use for my fax number?
Your "962" UNCW phone number is also your fax number.
What does the fax look like in my Inbox / email?
The subject line in your Inbox will say "Fax received from..." and the fax will appear as an attachment in the email message. Simply open the attachment to view the fax.
What do I need to do to receive a fax?
Give the person sending the fax your "962" phone number. When they call, do not answer the phone. The fax will show up in your Inbox. (See next FAQ for what to do if you accidentally answer the phone).
What if I accidentally answer the phone when a fax is coming in?
If you receive a phone call and hear the “fax tone” do not hang up the phone. If you want to receive the incoming fax follow these procedures:
- For DIGITAL or IP phone with a Transfer button:
Quickly hit the following buttons on your phone when fax tones are heard:- Transfer - *88 - Transfer, then hang up
- For ANALOG phone without a Transfer button:
Once you hear the fax tones:- Quickly depress “flash hook/ hang up switch” for no more than ½ a second
- Press *88
- Depress “flash hook/ hang up switch” again
What if I want to send a fax?
Currently, this system is set up only for receiving faxes.
