Distance Education and Video Network Services

 

Mission Statement:

As a component of the Technology Enhanced Learning Department within the Information Technology Systems Division, we are dedicated to lead, to collaborate and to support cost effective services that promote the mission of our university. 

Accordingly, Distance Education and Video Network Services supports the university’s mission of teaching, research, and service by providing students, faculty and staff with facilities, equipment and technical assistance for a comprehensive suite of videoconferencing technologies and related multimedia services.  These services include:

Locations and Facilities:

UNCW’s Distance Education and Video Network Services currently supports two fully integrated multimedia and interactive video classrooms (Education Building Room #266 and Randall Library Room #2005) and seven distributed IP based videoconferencing systems located throughout the UNCW campus.

Network Affiliations:

UNCW’s Distance Education and Video Network Services is an original member of the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN) and the State of North Carolina Information Technology Services’ Video Network (ITS-VNS).  Our affiliation with NCREN provides the UNCW community with dedicated access to a multi-site, multi-channel, broadcast quality interactive network connecting more than nineteen universities and medical schools (including each of the University of North Carolina’s 16 campuses, Duke University and Duke Medical School, Wake Forest University and Wake Forest Medical School and the ECU Brody School of Medicine).  Our affiliation with the NC ITS Video Network provides the UNCW community with access to over 180 other locations throughout North Carolina (including community colleges, K-12 public schools, hospitals and health education centers).  Additionally, each of these network affiliations provides the UNCW community with access to a full suite of videoconferencing, web conferencing, satellite downlinks, streaming media and real time collaboration and communication connectivity to public, private and non-profit institutions and organizations located throughout the world.
