Faculty Wiki

A wiki is a collaborative Web site which can be directly edited by anyone with access to it. Wikis can serve as a knowledge base for sharing information with select groups or broad groups.

The faculty wiki is designed for faculty collaboration. All faculty persons have access via SeaPort. Students do not have access; only several staff persons have access in order to assist with the administration.

Logging In

The faculty wiki can be accessed directly via SeaPort, the campus portal:

  1. Visit the UNCW homepage and choose Faculty/Staff on the left side
  2. Click SeaPort in the top right corner
Tip: Alternatively, the site can be accessed directly at http://seaport.uncw.edu
  3. Login using your university e-mail username and password
  4. Choose the Faculty Wiki link on the Faculty tab, in the Faculty Applications channel

Wiki: Terms and Conditions of Use

Definition

This wiki is a forum which is intended for use by UNCW-authorized personnel only, and will be accessible to faculty who have valid credentials to access UNCW’s SeaPort portal Web site.  There is anonymous (public) “read only” access.

Warning: Do NOT post personally identifiable or sensitive information, as content will be potentially viewable and shared by others.

Terms of Use

  1. The use of a wiki constitutes a privilege, not a right, and is subject to the standards of good scholarship and responsible civil discourse; specifically, this wiki does not constitute an open or limited access speech forum.  Any off-color, disrespectful, defamatory, derogatory, or inappropriate posting may be removed by the university without recourse by the individual posting the content.
  2. Conversely, the use of the wiki is subject to UNCW's Code of Student Life(pdf) and the Responsible Use of Electronic Resources Policy and any and all other rules, regulations, procedures or laws as they currently exist, or are hereafter revised or promulgated. Violations of any policy, applicable law, or university rules or regulations, may result not only in the summary removal of content and/or postings, but may result in further disciplinary actions against the posting party.
  3. By posting content on the wiki, you represent and warrant you either own or control all rights to the content posted, including, all rights required to post the content.  You further agree you will not intentionally post misleading or inaccurate information, and you will indemnify and hold harmless the university for any violations of these Terms and Conditions of Use, or any violation of applicable law, rule, policy, or regulation associated with your use of the wiki services.
  4. The wiki may be discontinued by the institution at any point for any reason.
  5. By posting to the wiki you are agreeing that your posted original content (your original works of authorship) are submitted under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike Public Use License. Under the terms of this license, you permit, in the absence of any compensation or royalties, that anyone may copy, distribute, display and/or perform your content, provided they credit your authorship each time they utilize the original content. The license also permits others to distribute derivative works of your content, but again, only if they do so under the same Creative Commons license that governs your original Content.
  6. Please read the full text of the Attribution-ShareAlike Creative Commons Public License.
  7. By posting to the wiki, you have agreed to grant to the university a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide license to use your content associated with all university educational, research, and public service activities.
  8. The wiki is provided “as is” and “as available”; the university makes no representations or warranties of any kind as to the operation or functionality of the wiki services.

Business Continuity

Until further notice, this wiki is being managed and operated as a “pilot” project, or non-Production service, which means that there will be no provisions made for backup, recovery, or maintained archives of the material or content that is posted within.  As such, reliance upon this data for course work and/or grading purposes is not advised.  Service outages will be attended to during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding holidays) and the case will be handled as a “best-effort” to restore the wiki service.
