Application Deadline:
Applications will continue to be accepted until all remaining positions have been filled. To apply for Round-Two selection/screening applications should have been received by March 18th, 2013. To be considered for the main staff selection, your application and resume should have been received by February 8th, 2013.

Applications may be submitted for consideration of any positions that remain after the main staff selection process is complete. MarineQuest staff positions are highly competitive so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible. Applications received between now and May 2013 will be kept on file to be considered until all remaining positions are filled.

Night Activity Counselors for Ages 10-17 (2 positions)

Duties:
  1. Supervise students age 10-17 during evening activities
  2. Plan and provide hands-on interactive activities
  3. Provide first aid to campers
  4. Assist with residential check-in on Sundays
  5. Report to night director
Qualifications:
  1. Must have strong oral communication skills to communicate effectively with campers, parents, and staff
  2. Must demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities
  3. Must have desire and experience working with youth
  4. Must demonstrate patience
  5. Preference for applicants who are at least 21 and have a valid drivers licence
  6. Knowledge of marine sciences is preferable
  7. CPR/First Aid is required (must be obtained by June 14, 2013)
  8. Lifeguard Certification is required (must be obtained by June 14, 2013; MarineQuest typically organizes an American Red Cross class before staff training begins. Cost is approximately $250.00. If interested in this option, please contact Janie McAuliffe).
Terms of Employment:
  1. June 16 through Aug 9, Sunday through Thursday
  2. Training during the week of June 9 through June 14
  3. Average work week is approximately 34 hours a week, Monday through Thursday from 3:45-10pm and Sunday 1:30-10pm
  4. Pay rate starts at $8.50/hr, dependent on qualifications
  5. Other compensation includes dinner when working
  6. Employment is subject to a criminal and Homeland Security background check

Weekend Instructors (2 positions)

Duties:

  6. Reports to Night Director
Qualifications:
  1. Must have strong oral communication skills to communicate effectively with campers, parents, and staff
  2. Must demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities
  3. Must have desire and experience working with youth
  4. Must demonstrate patience
  5. Must be at least 21 and have a valid driver’s license
  6. Knowledgeable in all of four major fields of marine science, plus familiarity with more recent areas of marine technology and biotechnology
  7. Preference is for candidates who have already completed a bachelor’s degree and/or working on a masters degree in a field of study related to the marine sciences. Minimum requirement is three years towards a bachelor’s degree in a field of study related to the marine sciences.
  8. CPR/First Aid is required (must be obtained by June 14, 2013)
  9. Lifeguard Certification is required (must be obtained by June 14, 2013; MarineQuest typically organizes an American Red Cross class before staff training begins. Cost is approximately $250.00. If interested in this option, please contact Janie McAuliffe).

Residential Assistants (4 positions - 2 male and 2 female)

Duties:
  1. Supervise students ages 10 -17
  2. Be present in the dorm during stated hours
  3. Provide first aid if needed
  4. Ensure student safety
  5. Supervise and conduct room inspections/inventory as needed
  6. Enforce lights-out and wake up time with students
  7. In case of emergencies, must be able to be easily woken in the night
  8. Walk campers to breakfast every morning
  9. Reports to Night Director
Qualifications:
  1. Previous experience with overnight camps is preferred
  2. Summer school students are preferred
  3. CPR/First Aid is required (must be obtained by June 14, 2013)
  4. Lifeguard Certification a plus, but not required
Terms of Employment:
  1. June 16 through Aug 9, on rotating on-duty shifts of approximately 2 to 3 nights/mornings a week (you will be on duty approximately 22 evenings/mornings during the course of the summer). Alternating weekend work is required.
  2. Training will be held during the week of June 9 through June 14
  3. Paid work hours are from 10pm-11:30pm and 6:30am-8am (the following morning) at a rate starting at $8/hr.  While on-duty, you will walk campers to breakfast and stay with them until day counselors pick up campers around 7:45am.  You must be in dorm from 9:45pm through the night until wake up at 6:30 am while on-duty.
  4. Compensation includes room, breakfasts provided while on-duty
  5. Employment is subject to a criminal and Homeland Security background check

Night Director

Primary Duties:
  • Supervise night activity counselors, weekend activity counselors and RAs
  • Facilitate evening programs and activities (agendas provided by MarineQuest)
  • Coordinate transportation to evening activity sites
  • Supervise Sunday residential check-in
  • Coordinate Sunday check-in's pizza dinner set up
  • Communication with parents
  • Manage all dorms keys and oversee weekly key exchange with UNCW housing
  • Administrative responsibilities
  • Report to MarineQuest program director
Other Duties:
  • Confirm some evening and weekend restaurant reservations
  • Coordinate with day staff instructors as needed
  • Occasional development of residential activities
  • Provide first aid to campers as needed
  • Responsible for program cell phone
  • Occasionally lead activities with students
  • Complete maintenance work orders for dorms
Qualifications:
  • Must have strong oral communication skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
  • Must demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities
  • Must have desire and experience working with youth
  • Must demonstrate patience
  • Must be at least 21 and have a valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of marine sciences is preferable
  • CPR/First Aid is required (must be obtained by June 14, 2013)
  • Lifeguard Certification is required (must be obtained by June 14, 2013; MarineQuest typically organizes an American Red Cross class before staff training begins. Cost is approximately $250.00. If interested in this option, please contact Janie McAuliffe).
  • Preference will be given for those who can live on site with campers in dorms
Terms of Employment:
  • June 16 through Aug 9 Sunday through Friday (some Saturday's may be required)
  • Training will be held during the week of June 9 through June 14
  • Average work week is 40 hours, from 3:30pm to 10:30pm (Sunday's 1:00pm - 6:00 pm)
  • Pay rate starts at $10.00/hr, dependent on qualifications and housing needs
  • Other compensation includes dinner when working
  • Employment is subject to a criminal and Homeland Security background check
