Sea GEMS: Fall 2015 Series
Join MarineQuest for our first year round Sea GEMS (Girls Exploring Marine Science) leadership program. Meet, learn, and serve with some truly inspirational female marine science faculty, associates, and students at UNCW. Girls who participate in this program will have the opportunity to explore the four fields of marine science, learn about current issues, develop technical skills and engage in community service that benefits coastal habitats and organisms.
MarineQuest School Programs
Experience the wonders of the coast with your students through hands-on inquiry-based classroom, field, and lab activities. All of our lessons are based on state and national education standards, including Ocean Literacy Principles, and highlight the different fields of study that make up marine science. We offer three academic enrichment programs focusing on the marine science of our coastal environments:Ocean Explorers, Coastal Encounters and Coast-to-Classroom.
Spring Saturday Morning Marine Explorers
Join our MarineQuest staff this spring for Saturday mornings filled with exciting scientific fun at the UNCW Center for Marine Science. Each month, we focus on a different theme as we get hands-on to explore sea creatures, marine habitats and ocean phenomena through lab experiments, field activities, games, art and more! Experience first-hand what it's like to be a true Marine Explorer!
Fall Teen Skill Building Workshop: Microscopy
Join MarineQuest for the start of our Teen Skills Building Workshop Series as we focus on one of the most essential scientific tools: the MICROSCOPE. This comprehensive workshop on microscopy techniques will introduce students to both the theory and practical use of modern microscopes. During the workshop students will gain hands-on training in fundamental microscope techniques, apply learned skills to explore the marine microcosmos, and interact with UNCW professors in UNCW laboratories as they are introduced to skills in advanced microscopy including fluorescence, digital imagining, confocal microscopy, and electron microscopy. This exclusive workshop is open to current high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
