Description: The study and performance of chamber music, transcribed as well as written for saxophone, from various style periods in music history for the saxophone ensemble.

 

Requirements

1.     Two ensemble rehearsals each week, one coached and one independent.

2.     Individual preparation of music.

3.     Attendance and punctuality is mandatory for each rehearsal.  Each absence will lower your grade one full letter.  Three tardy days will lower your grade one full letter.

Evaluations

1.     Weekly evaluations will be based upon the student's assigned music preparation for the week.

2.     The final grade will be determined by the weekly evaluations (25%) and the final performance (75%).  The final performance will be a formal presentation by the ensemble in the Saxophone Seminar, Departmental Seminar, Honors Recital, or any other similar performance opportunity as determined by the instructor.

 

Objectives

1.     To develop an understanding of various music performance practices by performing music of varying styles & genres for the saxophone ensemble.

2.     To develop ensemble performance skills, such as intonation, tonal blend, dynamic control, rhythmic accuracy, and instrumental roles within the ensemble.

3.     To perform music with a satisfactory level of performance ability, skill competency, and musicianship.

 

Most of the objectives listed above will be accomplished through regular listening, analysis, and performance of various compositions for the combo during weekly rehearsals.
