MUSIC 244/245- Woodwind MethodsCOURSE: WOODWIND METHODS – MUS 245-001; 244-001 (½ semester) TIME/PLACE: Fall 2008; 11:00-11:50; MWF; CA1088 INSTRUCTOR: Mr. Mike Waddell; 452-1840 (home); waddellm@uncw.edu MATERIALS: Two major woodwinds will be assigned to each student (one at a Reeds are not provided and need to be purchased by each student. TEXT: (required) Guide to Teaching Woodwinds (5th ed.) - Frederick W. Westphal GRADING: Full-semester students: Five lesson plans (written, one presented in class), two performance exams, a written mid-term and final exam. Half-semester students: Two lesson plans (written, with one presented in class), one performance exam, and a written mid-term exam. ATTENDANCE: Two absences per half-semester will be allowed without penalty. An absence is excused by instructor discretion only. Making up an exam requires prior notice and is granted by instructor Important dates: September 1 (Mon) Labor Day - no class Each playing test is done privately. The student order is changed from test to test. A) Three major scales - any keys B) Two octave chromatic scale - any starting pitch; slurred C) Three tunes from method book. The instructor will choose two at the exam.
