House Calls 2016

Dear University Faculty and Staff,

We are very excited about the eleventh year of the House Calls program developed by the Office of Housing and Residence Life in conjunction with the Office of the Dean of Students, and we are asking for your help.  House Calls is a program that involves faculty and staff interacting with students in the residence halls.  This program is a one hour event wherein groups of faculty and staff members walk through the residential areas, knocking on students’ doors, and checking in with them to see how the first semester is progressing.  Through this interaction, faculty and staff have the opportunity to introduce themselves and engage students in conversations.  This will offer students an opportunity to comment on their experience at UNCW as well as a chance to ask questions about current campus issues or academic interests.  Programs similar to House Calls have been conducted on campuses across the country, and they have resulted in positive feedback from students, faculty and staff.

House Calls are scheduled to take place the evening of Monday, October 17 at 8:00 pm. Participants will meet in assigned residence halls for a brief training session at 7:45 pm before beginning.  The program will conclude around 9:00 pm.  We hope that you will join us in this exciting opportunity to further our students’ learning and development in the residence halls. If you are interested in volunteering to participate, please complete the survey by October 10.

Upon volunteering, we will provide you with more detailed information about the event and your responsibilities including notification of which residence hall you will be visiting for the program.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.  We look forward to seeing you for the House Calls program.

Warmest Regards,

Chip Phillips
