Pre-Health Professions Programs

Each Fall semester, approximately 300 first-year students enter UNCW stating an intent to pursue a career in the health professions after completing their undergraduate studies. These careers include medicine (allopathic and osteopathic), dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, podiatry, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, veterinary medicine, and others.

Admission to post-graduate professional schools of health is highly competitive and the academic and personal preparation required to be a successful applicant is both rigorous and challenging.

The mission of the Pre-Health Professions Programs is to provide consistent guidance, support, and encouragement to all pre-health students starting at Freshman Orientation and continuing through the junior and senior year application process.

To further this mission, the program offers the following programs and services:

“A winning recipe for success is to soul search ... and shadow professionals in the field. After very careful consideration, determine what health career goal will hold the most potential for you, and then jump in with both feet."
