Dean's Welcome

Greetings and welcome to the UNCW School of Nursing website. 

At our School of Nursing you will find many exciting opportunities to enter the dynamic profession of nursing, to expand the horizons and education of practicing nurses, or to begin a career in clinical research.  As the Interim Dean, coming to you from 30 years on the Chapel Hill faculty as professor, Department Chair and Associate Dean, I am very excited about what this School of Nursing has to offer and confident that you will share my excitement.

You will see that you can enroll in the pre-RN licensure program in either the fall or the spring.  We admit approximately 50 pre-licensure students each semester.  RNs can earn their BSN online, or pursue their MSN in either the family nurse practitioner option or the nurse educator option.  For those nurses who have a MSN, seeking an educator role, we have our post master’s certificate in nursing education and for those seeking a change in focus, we also have our family nurse practitioner post-master’s certificate.  In addition, a student can choose to earn a BS in the new field of Clinical Research.

As we celebrate over 40 years of nursing education, we are in the process of building a new home – thanks to the generosity of the North Carolina General Assembly who awarded the university $30.1 million dollars for a state-of-the-art nursing building.  This new building will bring all of the latest technology (patient simulation labs, tele-classrooms, enhanced web-based teaching strategies) into our educational approaches.
