This option offers students pre-professional training in stage and film performance which prepares them for a pluralistic range of outcomes including professional employment in theatre, film or television, future advanced or graduate study, or skills leading to work in allied performance fields of interest.
Performance option classes should begin at the sophomore level. The student will commence their course of study by enrolling first in the lower level Theatre Core and Performance Core classes and then progress through the curriculum sequence. Performance Option Electives should then be completed at the junior and senior levels. Performers should plan a course of study each semester, which develops their movement and voice skills through such diverse disciplines as singing, voice and movement for the actor, dance or athletics. All theatre students are expected to be acquainted with the Department of Theatre Handbook, and policies related to auditioning, casting, and rehearsal deportment, etc. Students who are matriculated into the Performance Option as a double major should acquire a faculty advisor within the Department of Theatre.
