Kindra Steenerson is originally from Southern California. She earned her MFA in performance/directing in 2001 from Utah State University. Prior to coming to Wilmington, Kindra taught theatre courses at Utah State University, Maricopa Community College District, and Arizona State University. Kindra is thrilled to be settling into her new UNCW home where she teaches Introduction to Theatre and Acting for Non-Majors for the Theatre Program, and Introduction to Women’s Studies for the Women’s Studies Program. Kindra has studied with various acting teachers using diverse techniques. Though her educational training was largely informed by Stanislavski’s System, she has also had Meisner training with master teacher Tim Hart, and participated in SITI Company’s intensive workshops combining Anne Bogart’s “Viewpoints” and the techniques of Japanese director/teacher Tadashi Suzuki. As an actor, Kindra is proud to have worked with American directing legend, Marshall Mason, and playwright, and Negro Ensemble Company (NEC) favorite, Gus Edwards. As a director, she is grateful to have worked with everyone she’s encountered in the collaborative process as they have all left her with lessons, inspiration, and hope. “It isn’t theatre if it doesn’t excite your senses, stir your mind, and electrify your soul.”
