Seahawks Empowering African American Males is a student run organization created to help black men make the most out of their college experience. SEAM aids students in reaching their academic goals and promotes unity and fellowship on campus. The goal of this group is to foster a campus climate of inclusion and strengthen relationships among black men at UNCW.

About the Lecturer

Lathardus GogginsDr. Lathardus Goggins, II is an Assistant Professor with joint appointment in Educational Leadership and Social Work. His teaching areas include leadership, African-American male development, Diversity, and Education Policy. Dr. Goggins received his Ed.D. from The University of Akron. Prior to joining the faculty, he was an administrator in Higher Education for 15 years. Most recently serving as the Associate Dean for Multicultural Affairs at Arcadia University. Dr. Goggins research interest focus on African-American manhood/male identity development, the role of socialization and self-efficacy in academic performance (specifically, African-centered rites of passage impact on the academic performance of African-American students), mix methodology approaches to research.
