HIGHLIGHT: KUNTA LOWE

kuntaKunta Lowe is originally from Ghana, West Africa and is currently a student in the University of North Carolina Wilmington. He is Majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Digital Arts. Working with children is a passion of his and has done a few volunteer working teaching kids and helping them with their schoolwork. See some of his work here.

HIGHLIGHT: Taylor Abrams

taylorTaylor Abrams is one of two students who received a $5000 scholarship from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This scholarship will assist her in traveling to Los Angeles, CA to train with her screenwriting mentor. She was recently invited to attend the 2015 Academy Awards.

Condolences to the Murrell Family

johannJOHANN SHEMUEL MURRELL Johann Shemuel Murrell, of Wilmington, NC, died July 22, 2015. Johann was born in Summit, NJ on December 27, 1985. He graduated from John T. Hoggard High School in 2004. He attended NC State and CFCC. During his life he lived in Madison, NJ, Wooster, OH and finally, since the age of nine, in Wilmington. Johann described himself as a passionate "computer and tech nerd." He loved music; playing piano, since age five, adding violin at eleven; participating in middle and high school orchestras. He was an avid soccer player. He is survived by his devoted parents Prof. N. Samuel Murrell of UNCW and Joy L. Murrell, his loving siblings Ethan and Lanielle. Grandmother Quinetta Taffe, Aunt June Taffe, Uncles Cleve Holder, Stedrick, Everton, Jeffery (Pauline) Taffe, many Murrell Aunts and Uncles, and even more cousins on both Murrell and Taffe sides. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather Aston and Uncle Cecil Taffe. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Little Chapel on the Boardwalk, 2 West Fayetteville St., Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Johann S. Murrell to Coastal Horizons Center, 615 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC 28412 or online at coastalhorizons.org.
