On Teaching
It is my goal in writing workshops to lead students into "battle with the inexpressible," or facilitate that battle, should students already find themselves on the front lines. I am especially interested in those moments in any story, fiction or nonfiction, that feel most immediate, urgent, unforgettable, inevitable, and alive—I want to know why and how they work.
