Dean David P. Cordle brings over 21 years of administrative service to the University of North Carolina Wilmington as the new dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The college is administered by the dean, three associate deans, and 26 department chairs and program directors. The dean’s office staff includes an assistant for research, support and grant development, a budget administrator, an executive assistant, two administrative secretaries and a communications specialist who support and assist the dean from an operating budget exceeding $40 million.

Dean Cordle earned both his Ph.D. (1984) and his master's (1977) degree in music, piano performance, from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music degree, piano performance, summa cum laude from Shorter College in 1976. He has served as dean of Longwood University and professor of music at Longwood since 1998. Prior to that he served as chair of the Department of Music at Virgina Commonwealth University from 1989 to 1998, associate professor in 1995 and assistant chair and assistant professor of music at VCU from 1986 to 1989. He was chair and assistant professor in the Department of Music at William Woods College from 1983 to 1985.
