Dean David P. Cordle brings 29 years of academic experience to the University of North Carolina Wilmington as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of music. Dean Cordle earned his Doctor of Music (1984) and Master of Music (1977) degrees in piano performance from Florida State University, and his Bachelor of Music degree summa cum laude from Shorter College in 1976. Before coming to UNCW in 2005, he served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Longwood University from 1998 to 2005. He had previously served as chair of the Department of Music at Virgina Commonwealth University from 1989 to 1998 and assistant chair at VCU from 1986 to 1989. He was a faculty member and department chair at William Woods College from 1981 to 1985.

The college is administered by the dean, three associate deans, 21 department chairs and three program directors. The dean’s office staff includes a budget manager, an assessment director, and three administrative assistants, all of whom support the dean and associate deans in managing a comprehensive arts and sciences college with 450 faculty members and operating budgets exceeding $40 million.
