K-12 International Outreach

K-12 International Outreach is a new initiative to enhance global awareness and promote intercultural understanding within the K-12 curriculum. UNCW international students and faculty are linked with local K-12 schools to share first hand information and experiences about their home countries (cultural, education, language etc.). Teachers decide the country of focus and the theme they would want their students to learn from international students or faculty.

Currently, we have students from various countries including India, Australia, Japan, Korea, UK, Spain, Italy and Germany. We also have cultural correspondents, UNCW students who have returned from study abroad and are willing to share their experiences. When presenters cannot physically make it to the classroom, we use Skype to connect with teachers and students in a K-12 classroom to share information. Contact Dr. Mary Ombonga at ombongam@uncw.edu (910-962-7814) for additional information.
