Distinguished Scholarly Engagement and Public Service Award

The Distinguished Scholarly Engagement and Public Service Awards recognizes excellence in collaborative scholarly addressing critical societal issues beyond UNCW. There will be up to two recipients each year.

Eligibility Requirements:

Two award categories are offered: Rising and Senior

• Full-time faculty (EHRA-Faculty) who have completed at least five years or fewer (rising award) or six years or more (senior award) at UNCW

Criteria for Nomination and Selection:

Nominees are evaluated on excellence in scholarly engagement and public service at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, particularly work that results in mutually beneficial partnerships and demonstrated public impact beyond UNCW. The senior award recognized a sustained record of achievement across multiple areas, while the rising award highlights promising accomplishment in at lease one area. Relevant criteria include:

• Research, artistic, or humanistic activities that improve the lives of individuals or communities outside UNCW
• Strategic partnerships supporting community-engaged teaching and scholarship
• Grants applied for or awarded in support of community-engaged work
• Funded outreach efforts (e.g., engagement with public schools or STEAM initiatives)
• Technology transfer, patents, or other applied innovations
• Collaborative activities with community partners yielding recognized public benefits
• Peer-reviewed publications resulting from community-engaged scholarship
